Since expanding our telehealth program, one of the most common questions patients ask is: "Can I do this visit by video, or do I need to come in?" The answer depends on what you need — and we want to make that decision easy for you.
When Telehealth Works Well
Telehealth is an excellent option for many common healthcare needs:
- Follow-up visits — Reviewing lab results, checking in on a treatment plan, or adjusting medications
- Acute illness evaluation — Cold and flu symptoms, sore throat, sinus issues, allergies, UTI symptoms
- Medication management — Refills, dosage adjustments, side effect discussions
- Mental health check-ins — Anxiety, depression, stress management follow-ups
- Chronic disease monitoring — Diabetes, hypertension, and thyroid follow-ups when labs are current
- Skin concerns — Rashes, minor skin changes, acne (when visible on camera)
When You Should Come In
Some situations require hands-on evaluation that video cannot replace:
- Annual wellness exams — A physical exam, vitals, and in-person assessment are essential
- New or worsening symptoms — Chest pain, shortness of breath, severe abdominal pain, or any symptoms that concern you
- Procedures and tests — Blood draws, vaccinations, EKGs, X-rays, or any diagnostic test
- Musculoskeletal injuries — Sprains, strains, and joint problems benefit from a physical exam
- Pediatric visits — Most children's visits require in-person assessment, especially for younger children
